Meet ms Mara

Mara Madrid

Grade 1 Assistant

A Southern California native, I am the mother of four and a vegan/vegetarian organic chef.

I discovered Waldorf education fourteen years ago when I sent my first child to school, and I was immediately enthralled by Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy and Anthroposophy. To deepen my love and understanding of these principles, I took the Waldorf teacher training and foundation studies.

As an artist with a passion for creating, I am a classically trained photographer and I have studied handwork under several Waldorf handwork masters. I enjoy incorporating these artistic practices into my work as well as with my own children and students.

I am passionate about the environment and the wild spaces of Southern California. I love to instill this appreciation of nature and wonder into the children I work with. On weekends, you can find me spending time with family and friends on surf trips, nature walks, shooting photography in LA, visiting art museums, or happily creating in my kitchen with my children.

As Rudolf Steiner once said, "The heart of the Waldorf method is that education is an art – it must speak to the child's experience. To educate the whole child, their heart and will must be engaged, as well as their mind." I am committed to embracing this philosophy and creating a nurturing environment where each child can thrive.

I look forward to contributing to the enriching educational experiences we provide for our students in first grade.
